The California Golden Bears now need to find a quarterback in the 2018 recruiting cycle. Adrian Martinez has reopened his recruitment.

Martinez is still considering Cal and seemed to assuage fears after a solid Junior Day visit, but the offers keep on pouring in from all angles. Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss, and a ton of programs across the nation started recruiting him heavily the last few months. A visit to Tennessee was Martinez’s impetus for changing it up.

It was always going to be tough to hold onto Martinez. Not only has he become nationally attractive, but Martinez committed to Sonny Dykes and Jake Spavital and the Bear Raid, not the new regime. Spavital is also actively recruiting Martinez to West Virginia.
Cal has a host of quarterbacks that they are recruiting for the 2018 cycle, and the Bears are expected to take two signal-callers to bolster their depth. We’ll chat more about the options in future posts, but it’s good that this decommitment happened early on so the Bears can make contingency plans.
