Spring Football is almost over.

Spring Game is coming up this saturday, and coach Wilcox had some remarks about the game and also the growing emphasis on turnover margin. Here are some of his quotes below.

  • On having the set OL and DL - We’re working on some different combinations on the offensive line and on the defensive line, so, again these reps this position work is so valuable for these guys.
  • On the DL and OLB working “in tandem” - The structure of our defense, its the best [setup]. The way our positions works, and the crossover between them, theres a fair amount of that and so they’re working together on alot of that.
  • On taking opportunities on defense - You get a certain amount of chances to change the game on defense. Obviously, we’ve got to do a great job fundamentally, and being sound in our techniques and our systems; and then if we have an opportunity whether its for a strip, or an interception, or a loose ball or a sack or whatever it is, we’ve got to capitalize on our opportunities.
  • On TOs Created - We don’t track alot of different statistics, but thats one of them, especially on defense.
  • On TO Margin - Its the single most important statistic there is in Football... It’s all 3 phases, offense, defense and special teams, they all play a part in that.
  • On Format of the Spring Game - It’ll be alot of elements of a traditional practice and then we’ll get into some situational Football.

With Spring Football coming to a close that means we are that much closer to the start of the 2017 Football season.
