Cal has a bunch of potential local prospects they’re targeting for their first commitment. Could Toa Taua be their first 2017 prospect? Marques Tuiasosopo has hit the recruiting trail hard and heavy, and Taua appears to be one of the first Bears he’s established a relationship with early.

Taua also appears to be reciprocating that interest at that early juncture.

Taua is ranked as the 49th best athlete by 247Composite and the 62nd best prospect in the state of California (three-stars, 0.8556). However 247Sports has him ranked as a four-star prospect, and Scout a four-star athlete. Aside from the offer from Cal, Taua holds offers from Hawaii, Iowa State, Nevada, New Mexico, San Jose State and Washington State.
Cal will need its fair share of linebackers, but it sounds from the early buzz that Taua could be interested in playing running back in college as well. Cal needs both though, as Vic Enwere and Tre Watson will be playing their final seasons next year.
What do you think of Taua as a prospect Cal fans?
