A day of Cal coaching news continues. This is a positive development!

Justin Wilcox announced that he is bringing back one of his former players and putting him on the new coaching staff. Welcome back Desmond Bishop!

Bishop was recruited to Cal after the 2004 season by Wilcox, and became one of Cal’s greatest linebackers in the matter of two seasons, amassing 215 tackles, three sacks, three forced fumbles, and three interceptions. Bishop spent six years with the Green Bay Packers, winning a Super Bowl, before injuries appeared to cut short his career.

Cal will keep the trend of awesome football alumni joining the coaching staff. Jahvid Best (who went back to compete as an Olympian in Rio) was with the Bears for a year, then Austin Clark (who is now at USC as a graduate assistant), and Burl Toler all got coaching momentum as graduate assistants. Perhaps Bishop is the next good coach in this tradition.
