The selection committee did not look favorably upon the Bears, as they missed out the NCAA Tournament. It looks like our lack of a marquee win hurt us in getting into the tournament.
Cal ended up with two wins against the RPI top 50, but could not close out matchups in their big matchups against Oregon, Arizona, Seton Hall, and Virginia. A win or two against any of those squads, they’re almost certainly dancing.
The last four teams in are Kansas State, Wake Forest, Providence and USC. Cal’s win against USC was not enough to lift them over the top, as USC’s two best wins (against UCLA and SMU) beat out anything close to what Cal accomplished.
UPDATE: CBS has confirmed that Cal will be a 1 seed in the NIT, along with Illinois State, Iowa and Syracuse. The selection show for the NIT is at 5:30 p.m. Pacific on ESPNU.
What do you think about the Bears’ post-season plans?
