Cal MBB Insta-Recap: Bears battle but just could not fight back. L. 65-73

NCAA chances are now out of our hands.

NCAA Basketball: Pac-12 Conference Tournament Oregon vs Cal Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

Cal looked to be on a hot start, but Jabari Bird injured his head going for a block approximately 2 minutes into the game. The Bears maintained a lead until the final 5 minutes of the half, but got into a scoring drought making 0 field goals the last 4:38 and missed their final 6 shots of the half. Cuonzo’s men were effective on the offensive end making 42.3% from the field and 55.6% from beyond the arc. Ivan Rabb continued his his shooting slump going 1-5 from field with just 2 rebounds. Grant Mullins shouldered the jump shooting load, from the injured Jabari Bird, making 3-3 from beyond the arc and scoring 11 points. Charlie Moore also was the hot hand of the first half scoring 10 points on 4-7 shooting and 2-3 from 3PT land.

After a flurry of fouls Cal was in the Bonus at the 16 minute mark and would shoot FTs the rest of the way. The Bears battled until the very end and stayed within striking distance all game long, but just could not find a way to close the gap after they got as close as 4. The Bears had 3 players foul out but shot a ridiculous 53.3% from 3PT land to keep them in the game. Grant Mullins missed his only shot in the final 2 minutes of the game. Ivan Rabb left all fans wondering what-if after another shooting slump night going for 11 points on 4-12 shooting.
