After weeks of mostly tough losses and disappointment, Cal WBB broke through with a big road win over the Ducks. While the win likely doesn’t change Cal’s post-season reality (the only path to the NCAA tournament is to win the Pac-12 tournament), it does avoid the frightening specter of finishing last in the Pac-12.

In fact, a win today would put Cal in 7th in the conference, above a cluster of teams with 5/6 wins. A loss would knock Cal down to 8th place below Washington State. Their first round Pac-12 opponent will presumably be either USC or a mountain school.

But for now the focus is on the Beavers, who clinched at least a share of the conference title and the 1 seed in Seattle with a narrow win over Stanfurd on Friday. They’ll be greedy today, wanting to earn the outright title against the Bears. They should be somewhere in the 10-11 point favorite range tonight, and the Bears have generally had a tough time against Scott Rueck since he took over in Corvallis.
