A much more talented Cal squad faced San Diego State last season and got pummeled in Sacramento (admittedly, Ivan Rabb was hurt). San Diego State returns three of five starters, and former Cal center Kameron Rooks will be coming off the bench. The one thing to watch is Trey Kell—San Diego State’s second leading scorer has not played the last two games. But Malik Pope will be tough for Cal to score on, and the Aztecs sport a top 30 defense.
Cal is heavy underdogs on the road. They’re projected to lose by about 14 by Pomeroy and are coincidentally 14 or so point underdogs in the sportsbooks. This feels generous at this point, as Cal has lost five of its last six games by 10, 14, 24, 11, and 27. But on the other hand, Cal has proven they can play up to the level of their competition—their more competitive losses are against St. Mary’s.
