No real preview here. Just letting you know that, if you didn’t already, UCLA is one of the best teams in the country at #11. However, they did lose to Stanford (supposedly on a down year) at Maples on Friday just as Cal was taking care of USC.
With the men’s basketball team “upsetting” Stanford at Maples Pavilion in one of the greatest comebacks of all time, this would be a solid basketball weekend for Cal Athletics with wins over all 3 California teams in 3 days.
Oh yeah, and a win would boost Cal WBB’s Pac-12 title chances and show that this team is for real. It would all but show that Cal is one of the best teams in the nation as well, as so far they’ve been hanging around in the lower rings of the AP Top 25.
Cal is 0-2 against ranked teams, but one was UConn (the other, Missouri, was 12-1 entering conference play), so this will be Cal’s 3rd (of many) chances at a win over a ranked team.
A loss probably doesn’t damage Cal’s RPI or tourney chances, but with all the hype from the USC win, the euphoria over the men’s victory, plus the game being at home it would still be a big let-down.
Cal vs. UCLA
Where? Haas Pavilion
How to watch? It’ll be on the Pac-12 Network (including the National channel) with Cal alum Kate Scott on the call.
