The California Golden Bears basketball program, two years removed from their best NCAA seeding in their history, appear to be veering off the cliff this season.
The latest news fell today, when it was confirmed beloved Golden Bear and current Cal assistant Theo Robertson is on leave from the Cal coaching staff.
Cal’s official statement:
California men’s basketball assistant coach Theo Robertson is on leave from the program. Director of Operations Keith Brown will serve as the program’s third assistant coach in the interim.
Robertson appeared to accompany the team to Maui and was on the bench for the Wichita State game, but many Cal fans noticed he wasn’t present for the team’s final two defeats against VCU and Chaminade.
In the time since the official hiring of Wyking Jones, Robertson’s homecoming—after spending three seasons with the Warriors & Steve Kerr and the Lakers & Luke Walton (as well as a few seasons with Mike Montgomery at Cal)—was easily the happiest news for most of the Cal basketball community.
It’s dark times for Cal basketball.
