Cal Football Recruiting, Friday Night Lights: McCallan Castles leads South Tahoe to victory

Castles registered 182 yards in a win. Who else stepped up for their high school squad?

Nikko Remigio: WR, Mater Dei (Santa Ana, CA)

Mater Dei improved to 9-0 this season with a 51-21 trouncing of Orange Lutheran. Remigio hauled in four passes for 61 yards and one touchdown.

JT Shrout: QB, Hart (Newhall, CA)

Hart extended its winning streak to three games by defeating Golden Valley 34-27 to improve to 6-3 this season. With no running game to speak of — and trailing by five entering the 4th quarter — Shrout led the Indians’ 20-8 4th quarter win to fuel their comeback. Shrout completed 13 of 30 passes for 305 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.

Will Craig (OL) and Evan Tattersall (LB/RB): Granite Bay (Granite Bay, CA)

Granite Bay blew Woodcreek away 49-7 to improve to 7-2 this season, but it was a slow game for Tattersall as he notched just one tackle, while blowing up the running back who kept trying to block him all night.

Chigozie Anusiem: CB, Sonora (La Habra, CA)

Sonora continues to struggle after a great 4-0 start to the season as they have now dropped four of their previous five games. Their most recent loss was a 34-7 blowout against Sunny Hills.

McCallan Castles: TE, South Tahoe (South Lake Tahoe, CA)

Castles and South Tahoe dropped to 5-4 after losing a tightly contested 34-27 matchup with Truckee. Castles put forth another mammoth performance though, as he caught 10 passes for 182 yards and two touchdowns.

Omari Harris: RB/LB, Antioch (Antioch, CA)

Harris and Antioch defeated Deer Valley 23-14 to improve to 6-2 this season. Harris rushed four times for five yards and lost two fumbles.

Nick Alftin: DE, Archbishop Mitty (San Jose, CA)

Archibishop Mitty dropped a 22-21 heart-breaker to St. Ignatius as they now hold a 5-3 record after starting the season 5-0. Archbishop Mitty led 21-7 at halftime and the start of the fourth quarter, but couldn’t muster any second half points to halt the St. Ignatius comeback.

Atonio Mafi: G/DT, Junipero Serra (San Mateo, CA)

After vanquishing Valley Christian 35-7, Serra now holds a 6-2 record on the strength of a five-game winning-streak.

Miles Owens: OL, Bishop O’Dowd (Oakland, CA)

Bishop O’Dowd blasted Berkeley 51-15 to improve to 6-2 this season.

Brandon Mello: OL, Clayton Valley Charter (Concord, CA)

Seven is Clayton Valley Charter’s lucky number as the Ugly Eagles extended their winning streak to seven games and are now 7-2 this season after a brutal 71-7 blowout win against Las Lomas.

JH Tevis: DE, Menlo (Atherton, CA)

Tevis and Menlo mauled Hillsdale 33-10 to improve to 6-2 this season. Menlo are riding a four-game winning-streak. Tevis recorded eight tackles and three tackles for a loss.

Jasper Friis: OL, Aquinas (San Bernardino, CA)

Aquinas continued its insanely good run of football this season with a 74-0 win against Western Christian to improve to 9-0.

Matthew Cindric: DL, Skyline (Sammamish, WA)

Skyline improved to 6-3 this season with a 42-28 win against Issaquah. Cindric recorded five tackles, one tackle for a loss, and one sack.

Slater Zellers: OL/LS, Notre Dame Prep (Scottsdale, AZ)

Notre Dame Prep beat Vista Grande 53-24 to conclude its regular season at 10-0. Next up is a playoff game against Desert Edge.
