Cal Poly is an interesting matchup. HC Wyking Jones wants to force turnovers, get in transition for easy baskets, yet they are up now up against Cal Poly who had the 32nd lowest turnover percentage in the country last season. As a team the mustangs only averaged 11 turnovers a game. In terms of personnel, they return 5 of their top 6 scorers including top scorer Victor Joseph who averaged 12 points per game. Joseph had 17 against Stanford earlier in the week, but the star for Mustangs was Donovon Fields who had 21 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals against the trees in Palo Alto. The starting guards will be the key for the Mustangs and the Bears must zone in on the two of them. In the front court, Cal Poly returns their leading rebounder in Josh Martin who averaged 8.4 rebounds in the first 5 games of last season before missing the remainder of the season due to a foot stress fracture. The former Minnesota forward is their most explosive front court player and will be a test for the Cal wings. The Bears have a tough test and a quick turnaround to recover from the UC-Riverside loss. Here’s to a Cal victory!
