Cal vs. Oregon: Run Game Woes

In this video I look at a persistent problem that Cal’s run defense had against Oregon. When a team gives up a lot of yards on the ground people look to the defensive line first, but there are other factors at play, and this is especially true against the spread. I look at several of the schematic issues that go into stopping the Zone Read and identify a common weakness on the backside of the play that led to some big cutbacks by the Ducks. This can give you something tangible to watch for as the season progresses, and a way to measure the effectiveness of our coaching and recruiting going forward.
