Cal is looking for defensive relief in multiple areas.
Jaylon Redd is currently committed to the Oregon Ducks, but he’s doing his due diligence. Redd will take a few more trips before National Signing Day, which includes Cal. Arizona and UCLA are also scheduled to get trips as well. I’d still imagine Redd is a huge favorite to land with Oregon, but it’s nice to see the Bears getting some play this late in the game.

Let’s take a look at his highlight reel.
Redd’s tape is impressive. He’s speedy, he’s fast, he covers space in quick strides, and he seems like a perfect fit for Oregon’s defensive stylings. He’s currently ranked as a four-star in 247Composite (0.9171) as the 28th best cornerback and 23rd best California prospect.
Cal does currently have two defensive back commits in Je’Quari Godfrey and Tyriq Hardimon. Athletes like Jeremiah Hawkins, Jordan Genmark-Heath, and Michael Onyemaobi are all on the table as options to convert to defensive back. The Bears seem to be filling up their coffers nicely in the secondary. But there is work to be done up front.
