With the Bears picking up four commits this weekend (athlete Daniel Scott, linebacker Kyle Harmon, tight end Gavin Reinwald, offensive lineman Poutasi Poutasi), Cal is looking to continue their strong close in the final week before National Signing Day. One potential recruiting prospect is Lancaster cornerback Branden Smith. Greg Biggins reported that Smith might have been a visitor this past weekend.

Wilcox recently extended an offer to the Paraclete High School athlete. His other offers were from Fresno State and BYU, but Scout reports offers from UCLA, Washington State, Oregon State and others. Take a look at his highlights.
In high school, Smith had a big impact on special teams as a return man. His speed will surely be a weapon for Cal in the future, although if there is one thing Cal isn’t lacking, it’s weapons with speed such as Demetris Robertson and Melquise Stovall.
If he committed, Smith would join a secondary in need of depth and ability. Smith has the requisite skills to go up and go after the football. He tackles hard in coverage and could be a great late addition for the Bears.
Smith is a National Signing Day decision.
