Cal Football picks up two more commitments this weekend: TE Gavin Reinwald and LB Kyle Harmon

New Bears!

After news of commitments from Poutasi Poutasi and Daniel Scott, the California Golden Bears have doubled the number of players who committed this weekend. Must have been one hell of a recruiting weekend at Memorial Stadium...

While our Men’s Basketball team was beating up on some dirty Furdies, WR/TE Gavin Reinwald announced that he was switching his commitment from Hawaii to California.

Our buddies at Rivals—Nam and Trace—reported that Reinwald will be joining the Bears as a tight end.

Later this evening, we picked up a needed player. Cal needs linebackers. Cal needs local Bay Area talent. The Bears might have gotten a local gem in Oakley (Ca.) Freedom linebacker Kyle Harmon.

Harmon decommitted this weekend from Cal Poly and then made his commitment to the Bears!

At 6’0”, 218 pounds, Harmon is ranked as the 84th-best inside linebacker and 165th-best California prospect by 247Composite (Three-stars, 0.8113). Aside from Cal Poly, Harmon held offers from Army, Air Force, Cornell and several Mountain West programs.

A straight-A student raised by a single mom, Harmon has an inspiring story you should read about. Darren Sabedra from the Bay Area News Group has more.

The Freedom High football standout will do so in honor of his father, Kevin, who died of congestive heart failure three years ago last month, when Harmon was a freshman.

“I always ask him to make sure that everybody has a safe game, ask him to let me play my game and not get caught up in everything else,” Harmon said.

In four seasons at Freedom, Harmon has blossomed into one of the Bay Area’s top linebackers, a straight-A student.

Hudl highlights:

Harmon joins the growing Cal linebacker class which currently consists of JUCO signee Da’Quan Patton and Oakland prospect Paul Scott. The Bears are starting to find the bodies they need at their most vulnerable defensive area, which should bode well for us.

Welcome to Cal, Kyle and Gavin! Go Bears!
