Bruce Feldman reports. Cal’s new offensive coordinator may hail from the FCS program of Eastern Washington. Coach Baldwin lead the EWU since 2008 to an overall 85–32 record with wins against Oregon State in 2013 and Washington State in 2015. He also coached the EWU Eagles to a 2010 FCS National Championship.
In his most recent season EWU Eagles ended their season in the FCS Championships in the semi-finals falling to Youngstown State in a 12-2 campaign with their other loss to #1 ranked North Dakota State earlier in the season.
His most famous player is QB Vernon Adams who transferred to Oregon in 2015 as well as Taiwan Jones who is currently the RB for the Oakland Raiders.
"We have developed, in my opinion, an offense that I can't even put a name on. We pick some different parts of different offenses and make it our own. We try and mold it around the quarterback to make him be successful. Ultimately, it is an offense with the mindset that we are going to create situations where our quarterback can succeed." -- Beau Baldwin
Eastern Washington employs a creative, fast and most importantly an efficient offense. That much was obvious last year, averaging 44 points per game, and last weekend in putting up 42 on Oregon. The fashionable up-tempo spread offense is operated beautifully by quarterback Jordan West, who was 23 of 34 for 293 yards and three touchdowns against the Ducks in the opener.
Contract details are pending, however, we do know that there is no buyout clause for his HC contract at EWU where he made $240,000 a year, a number Cal is sure to double , something Feldman mentions in his tweet.
More Updates, EWU is now calling for a press conference:
