When a coaching staff is replaced, you expect a few of your recruiting class to reconsider where they want to be. Cal appears to have lost one commit (for now), could be on the verge of losing another, and still have plenty of recruits they will have to fight for.
Hours after Justin Wilcox was hired, Cal commit offensive lineman Casey Roddick has reopened his recruitment.

Roddick’s decommitment does make you wonder about the status of offensive line coach Brandon Jones. Cal has already seen offensive coordinator Jake Spavital head off to West Virginia, wide receivers coach Jacob Peeler move to Ole Miss, and strength and conditioning coach Damon Harrington likely headed on the way out.
That leaves Jones as the only potential offensive coach who’s likely to be retained (don’t expect Garret Chachere to come back). Roddick reopening his recruitment doesn’t feel like a good sign with regards to the long-term status of Jones.
I still feel as if Cal can win Roddick back, but the Bears will need to make an offensive line coach hire in a hurry. Colorado, San Diego State, Oregon State and Oregon were in Roddick’s top 5. Cal is now down to one recruiting commit along the offensive line in Michael Saffell.
In another Cal recruiting news, cornerback commit Je’Quari Godfrey is enjoying his visit to USC. Godfrey got the Trojan offer recently, and I expect him to be another potential flip candidate if USC makes him a priority.

Two other Cal commits (Jeremiah Hawkins and Michael Onyemaobi) are also likely to visit Nebraska.
