Cal begins its home opener against the University of Texas on Saturday September 17th. Last year at DKR in Austin, Cal was tied with Texas 24-24 at halftime but started the second half on a 21-0 run and it seemed that Cal was going to comfortably win. However, Texas scored three unanswered touchdowns in the 4th quarter and it appeared that this game was headed to overtime. But when Nick Rose missed the point after, the game was sealed and Cal snuck away with a 45-44 victory.
This year at Memorial Stadium, Charlie Strong and Texas look for sweet revenge. While the Golden Bears lost many players to the NFL draft and graduation, Texas has many of their young and promising players returning. Former Texas QB Jerrod Heard, who rushed for over 150 yards against Cal has moved to WR and the Longhorns projected QB1 is Freshman Shane Buechele, who was a two-time all state QB in the state of Texas.
