Cal is not just dropping 50 Golden Bears at the 2016 Summer Olympic games in Brazil, they are sending the most out of ANY university in the United States, according to CBS Sports. I’d guess that it’d be the most out of any university in the world, although we have no official stats of Olympic representation around the world.
The Pac-12 leads the way with 273 athletes, coaches and staff overall (The SEC sends 206, Big Ten 154, ACC 137, and Big 12 100). The California Pac-12 programs lead the way in representation, with Cal sending 50 Olympians, USC 48, Stanford 43, and UCLA 34. Arizona State is sending 25, Oregon 22, and Arizona 13 to give the Pac-12 seven out of the top 25 represented programs.
In case you were wondering about the identities of all the Calympians, Ruey has your full list below, and you can click here to check out which Golden Bears he predicts will win medals.
