Carli Lloyd and Team USA volleyball undefeated in pool play

In women's volleyball, alum Carli Lloyd and the United States completed pool play with a perfect 5-0 record after downing China, 3-1 (22-25, 25-17, 25-19, 25-19). Lloyd saw action in the first set and contributed one dig and one assist. Team USA next plays Tuesday night in the quarterfinals.

"We knew China would be a tough competitor. They always are and they don't go away," Lloyd said after the match. "So you can get them backed up a bit, then they just come at you full throttle. I feel we did a really good job of just staying in it and trusting in what we do. It was a great team effort."

Lloyd, the 2010 NCAA Player of the Year, added she takes much of what she learned in Berkeley with her onto the court at the international level.

"Being at Cal and being in that environment, I felt like I was part of a family," Lloyd said. "That environment we created in Berkeley those four years is something that will always be with me. And I use that as an example when I go other places because those four years were phenomenal. We had a great four-year run there, and a large part was because of the environment we created."
