Cal at the Olympics has probably hit its watershed moment Saturday night with Golden Bears picking up six more gold medals in the medley relays in the pool at Rio. The Bears crossed the 200 mark yesterday with the seven new medals they picked up (six from swimming, one from rowing).

Cal swimming will probably represent the bulk of the medal representation. With only a handful of Bears in team sports still playing, Cal athletes are probably going to top out on three to four more medals at most. It’s still possible for the Bears to top the 23 medals they won in London, but their remaining athletes have work to do.

Cal athletes have captured 14 event medals in all, with seven going gold, three silver and four bronze. The seven gold medals would tie them fifth overall with Japan and the 14 event medals place them tenth, behind Italy and France but ahead of South Korea. Below is what the medal count looks like.

Country Gold Silver Bronze Total
United States 24 18 18 60
China 13 11 17 41
Great Britain 10 13 7 30
Japan 7 3 14 24
Russia 6 9 8 23
Australia 6 7 9 22
Italy 6 7 5 18
France 5 8 5 18
Cal 7 3 4 14
South Korea 6 3 4 13

Note: Cal Athletics appears to not be counting Cierra Runge’s medal since she is transferring from the program.
