Per "Phenom Hoop Report", the Top 10 2017 recruit narrowed his list to 8 schools. Besides Cal, he listed these following teams:
- Arizona,
- Duke,
- Georgia Tech,
- Georgia,
- Harvard,
- Kentucky,
- and University of North Carolina.
He is a highly ranked recruit due to his high basketball IQ and physicality. Per Jamie Shaw of Phenom Hoops:
"Carter is a known physical presence, especially around the basket. He is a quick jumper, who battles for two handed rebounds and blocks/affects shots on the defensive end. Offensively, he is still collecting himself balance wise, but shows hands touch and some footwork."
Furthermore Russell Steinberg from SBNation says this about him:
When he pulls down a defensive rebound, he can quickly unleash a bullet of an outlet pass to a teammate ready to start the break. When he comes up with an emphatic block, it doesn't go flying out of bounds while he stares down the shooter — it goes to a teammate, again ready to run.
Carter isn't the quickest guy on the court, but when he keeps his man in front of him, there's not much an opposing player can do other than force up a bad shot, at which point Carter will be ready to box out.
According to 24/7 Sports Duke has the highest chance to secure Wendell Carter's commitment. However, Coach Martin has shown the ability to secure commitments from brainy 5* basketball recruits out of Atlanta, Georgia. In 2015 we got Jaylen Brown, last year we got Demetrius Robinson... how about a three-peat?
