Fantastic news - both because of Cal's lack of linebacker depth that we've touched on many-a-time, and the fact that the various scouting services have him pegged as a fantastic player.
- Rivals: 4-stars, 21st ranked outside linebacker
- Scout: 4-stars, 20th ranked outside linebacker, 258th ranked player nationally
- ESPN: 3- stars, 32nd ranked outside linebacker
- 247: 3-stars, 30th ranked athlete, 406th ranked player nationally
When you watch Johnson's highlight reel, one thing is clear. He is extremely athletic. He's fast, strong, making plays all over the field. I mean... his highlight reel is over 11 minutes long. Granted, part of the reason is because he plays both ways, but that is still a boatload of highlights.
He demonstrates fantastic speed, chasing down running backs from behind or keeping up with wide receivers while in coverage. He is fantastic in coverage because of his speed as well as his great size and long arms. Furthermore, from his highlights as a WR, he clearly has great hands.
Johnson is also very strong and very physical. We see him blow defenders back when blocking as a WR, and he fights off blockers on the pass rush as well. He uses this strength when he tackles as well, taking down all ball-carriers once he gets 2 hands on them.
Johnson also demonstrates great instincts for the game. He reads the game well and lets it come to him. He shows that he has a nose for the ball, locating the ball-carrier and taking a direct route.
According to Gorcey, Johnson has visits planned to Oregon, Oregon State, Wazzu and Fresno State.

Wouldn't it be great to see Johnson wreaking havoc on opposing offenses for Cal?
