Welcome back Coach!

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Cal can breathe easy about their basketball coaching situation. Cuonzo Martin will be back in charge of the Bears next season and for hopefully many years to come.

Athletic director Mike Williams had this to say.

"We are pleased to announce that we have agreed to a contract with Coach Martin to continue to lead our men's basketball program," Williams said. "Cuonzo has demonstrated that he is an educator, first and foremost, and cares deeply about developing young people into responsible and productive adults. Not only have we seen outstanding results on the court, his teams have shown a deep commitment to their work in the classroom. We couldn't be happier with the trajectory of the program."

Martin is coming off his second year at Cal where the Bears finished 18-0 at Haas Pavilion and earned their highest NCAA tournament seeding ever.

The contract was signed after an investigation was conducted into the handling of a case surrounding the dismissal of a Cal assistant.

A review by the Office for the Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination determined that athletics department employees, including Martin, "responded appropriately and promptly to the complaint in alignment with UC policy requirements.''

The length of the contract has yet to be disclosed. But the contract is valued at an annual $1.64 million. Martin was making around $1.188 million a year.
