Zach Kline, twice a California Golden Bear, is transferring to Fresno State. The now Cal graduate will join a few former Cal bear coaches in Burl Toler (wide receivers) and Eric Kiesau (offensive coordinator). At the time of his recruitment, Kline was touted by Rivals as the second coming of Chad Pennington and many around the Cal football team expected him to lead Tedford's resurrection. Ultimately Tedford and Cal parted ways ushering in the Sonny Dykes era and hot shot freshman Jared Goff beat out Kline in a hotly contested camp battle. More than a few fans have suggested if Kline was named the starter his freshman year, the Goffense may not have existed or ultimately been very much delayed in its debut.
Kline joins a very crowded quarterback field at Fresno State and looks to make an immediate impact. Kline looked impressive in the spring game leading the Bears second unit. I wouldn't be surprised to see Kline push Chason Virgil for the starting spot, he has a rocket for an arm and it should be an easier transition for Kline into Kiesau's offense as it mirrors more of Tedford's approach.
Congrats Zach on graduating from Cal and finding a place to continue your dream of playing collegiate ball!
