Unfortunately for Zach Kline, his journey in a Cal uniform has finally ended. After returning to the program to earn his degree, Kline has decided to graduate from UC Berkeley and transfer for his final year of eligibility as a graduate transfer. He should be able to play immediately.
Despite returning to Cal this winter to complete his schooling and rejoining the team in a walk-on capacity, it was unlikely Kline was going to win out in a crowded quarterback competition featuring a new offensive coordinator and signal-callers like Chase Forrest, Ross Bowers, Max Gilliam, and now the incoming Davis Webb. Kline had been gone too long and had too many hurdles to overcome to be an effective Bear Raid signal-caller.
As a Cal fan who watched a lot of Zach Kline at San Ramon Valley in 2011 thinking that he might have a chance to be the future of the program, it's clear that things have not quite worked out that way on the football field. But academically I'm happy to see that he's earned his degree and will proudly walk the rest of his life as a true blue and gold alum. Best of luck in the next part of your career Zach, and go Bears!
