As Nick talked about yesterday, CBS Sports seems to think Kentucky transfer Marcus Lee will visit Cal today and commit to the Bears.
Kentucky transfer Marcus Lee will visit Cal on Tuesday and is expected to commit to the Pac-12 school, sources told CBS Sports on Sunday. "He's going to Cal," one source said of Lee. "Unless something crazy happens, he's going to Cal."
Nick has outlined all of the possibilities for how this could work with our fuzzy scholarship math. Either someone is leaving the program or Lee would opt out of a scholarship for a year or someone is giving up their scholarship. I'm not sure how this is getting done, but I imagine Cuonzo Martin would do his best to keep things level.
There's no doubt that Cal could use someone like Lee for 2017-18, particularly if Ivan Rabb leaves after his sophomore season (although if he stayed, what a delight that would be). His rebounding, rim finishing, and blocking would be critical in a Pac-12 conference that's not exactly littered with big men the next few seasons. It would give Cal some much needed size they've lacked at the position.
Take a look at Lee's tape. What do you see?
