Cal is starting to get a radar for the type of quarterback they might want for the 2017 class. The latest is Jack Sears from San Clemente, who received an offer last week and is ready to take a trip up after the Nike Opening event in Oakland to see what Berkeley has to offer next week.

The 247Sports Composite four-star quarterback has offers from all the major West Coast programs, including 10 Pac-12 programs (UCLA, USC, Stanford, Washington, all but Oregon and WSU). He's a pro-style quarterback but does have multiple abilities. At 6-5 and 200 pounds, Sears threw 37 touchdowns and two picks at a 71.5% completion rate his junior year, while rushing for nine more touchdowns and 862 rushing yards.

More on Sears from his high school coach, Jack Ortiz via Ryan Gorcey.

"Jack has the ability to be either-or. I think Jack could fit in, in Stanford's pro-style offense, 22-personnel and running right at you, and he can fit in at Cal. I think Cal's a good mix of the two. It'll be interesting to see the new offensive coordinator, with Jake coming in and coach [Tony] Franklin leaving, to see the changes, but for Jack, it's really an opportunity to fit in and do multiple things. That's what a lot of coaches like about him. One of the pluses is the fact that he can fit in to a pro-style offense, and he can fit into a dual threat offense. He's the best athlete on the team. You look at his SPARQ score, his ability to run and throw, he's definitely one of the guys that, whether it's under center or in gun, he can make things happen."

Cal has also recently offered Kentucky quarterback commit Mac Jones and Chase Garbers from Newport Beach. Current projections have Sears at UCLA and Garbers at Washington, but projections also had Demetris Robertson ending up at Georgia, so...

There hasn't been any concrete information on how much in the mix the Bears are for five-star Texas A&M decommit and Spavital recruit Tate Martell, but you have to imagine if he's interested, Cal is interested.

What are your thoughts on Sears and his tape Cal fans?
