Bears complete the 3 game sweep over UCLA with a 5-3 win on Sunday. This is also the 7th straight win for the Golden Bears.

Matt Ladrech went 6.2 innings to pick up the win for the Bears. He was able to strand numerous UCLA runners all day long. Catcher Brett Cumberland clubbed two homers and had 4 RBI's to lead the Bears offensively.

UCLA made a late rally to make things interesting, but the Bears got out of yet another jam by turning a double play to end the game.

Recap from CalBears.com:

BERKELEY, Calif. – The No. 13 Golden Bears (18-6, 7-2 Pac-12) completed the sweep of the UCLA Bruins (12-13, 4-5 Pac-12) 5-3 on Sunday afternoon at Evans Diamond in Berkeley. Sophomore catcherBrett Cumberland, the Pac-12’s leading hitter, was the difference for the Bears, going 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI. Sophomore left-hander Matt Ladrech improved to 3-1 on the season, tossing 6.2 quality innings, allowing one unearned run on nine scattered hits with a pair of strikeouts. Cal picked up its fourth sweep of the season, and seventh consecutive win, to remain atop the Pac-12 standings, tied with Utah.

"I feel good right now," Cumberland said following his monster afternoon. "Hopefully it continues for us. This is huge for our team, especially after that series loss at USC. These last two sweeps were huge; with Oregon State and then coming in here to keeping everything rolling. We took care of business today and are looking to continue that."

With the sweep, the Bears remain at the top of the Pac with Utah (who swept Arizona this weekend).Golden Bears will next play a non-conference game against Stanford on Tuesday night (game is on the Pac-12 Networks) before heading up to Oregon for a 3 game series.

California Golden Bears vs. UCLA Bruins

Where: Evans Diamond

When: 1 pm PT

Radio: KALX

TV: None (that's unfortunate)

It's the series finale between the 13th ranked Golden Bears and the always talented Bruins. The Golden Bears will be looking to complete a 3 game sweep of the Bruins, as well as their 7th straight victory (all during the current homestand).

Friday game - Bears won 9-1 behind Ryan Mason, who made an emergency start after ace Daulton Jefferies couldn't go.

Saturday game - Bears hit 3 homers to beat UCLA 8-2.

Who is going to start the game today? It will likely be sophomore lefty Matt Ledrech, who was brilliant in 7 innings of relief last Sunday after entering in the 1st inning to relief Jeff Bain (who went 6 innings for the win on Saturday).

With Daulton Jefferies out this weekend (I think) and a non-conference matchup with Stanford on Tuesday night, the depth of the Cal pitching staff is being tested. So far the Bears have done well.

It certainly doesn't hurt that the middle of the Cal lineup is just really locked in right now.

During the current streak, Bears have dominate games from start to finish but also shown the resilience to comeback in a few games. Can the Bears maintain this momentum and complete the sweep today? In what fashion will the Bears win? We shall have our answer soon enough.
