LOS ANGELES - The No. 19 Cal beach volleyball team began its challenging road trip to Southern California on Tuesday with a 5-0 loss to No. 3 USC at Merle Norman Stadium.
The Trojans (10-2) won each match in straight sets, with the Bears' No. 4 pair of sophomore Teya Neff and freshman Rachel Wilson providing the most competition in a 21-13, 21-14 loss. Cal's No. 2 pair of Bryce Bark and Kory Lamet lost for just the third time this season, 21-11, 21-12.
USC is the defending AVCA national champions and its only losses this season are to No. 1 Pepperdine and No. 2 Florida State. It marks the first of Cal's five losses that hasn't come by a final score of 3-2.
