Maryland defensive end Chinedu Udeogu faxed in his letter of intent. Udeogu joins several defensive end prospects as Golden Bears who will be part of the Cal plan to upgrade speed on the edge. It should give the Bears the ability to be strong against both the pass and the run in our 4-3 alignment. Cal held off a late charge from Iowa State to secure Chinedu's commitment.
The Bears made Udeogu a high priority at the critical position of defensive end. Udeogu had offers from Rutgers, Army, Dartmouth, Pitt and Yale, and Rutgers figured to be the team to beat for awhile before Cal swooped in and started making their pitch. Good job by the staff to hone in on a top talent who's a good academic fit with the Bears! Cal upgrades our speed on the edge and give us the ability to be strong against both the pass and the run in our 4-3 alignment.
You can see the potential the Cal coaching staff must like from Udeogu. He's a defensive menace, he's academically inclined, and the Bears do need to stack up on defensive line talent in a hurry. The Bears will hopefully be able to sport a stronger defensive line with greater depth at all positions.
