Josh Drayden of Dallas (Tx.) Bishop Dunne high school will add to the growing depth of defensive backs who will attempt to further improve Cal's pass defense in the coming years.

Drayden is listed at 5'10 and anywhere from 165 to 175 pounds depending on which recruiting site you look at. He also runs a 4.40 40-yard dash. And Cal could use an injection of speed in the secondary.
Here is where Drayden ranks with the four major recruiting services.
ESPN: Three stars, 76th ranked cornerback, 151st ranked player in Texas.
Scout: Three stars, 120th ranked cornerback.
Rivals: Three stars.
247sports: Three stars, 134th ranked cornerback, 182nd ranked player in Texas.
Cal had to fend off a wide range of programs to secure Drayden's commitment. He held offers from Army, Air Force, Boise State, Boston College, Iowa, Kansas State, Northwestern and Wisconsin (among others).

Count me in as someone who thinks Drayden is supremely underrated by the scouting services. I watched a lot of his tape when writing the Friday Night Lights posts this season and always came away impressed by his ability to stay with his receiver in man coverage, make great reads in zone coverage and come up aggressively to make the tackle on short passes in the flat.
Here is an in-depth scouting report on Drayden.
Drayden is one of the prospects from this class that I'm most excited about, so check out the highlights of his senior year below and see for yourself.
Welcome to Cal! Go Bears!
