Cal is coming off a home sweep against Purdue this weekend, and will now conclude four games in four nights against the Wolverines. Quick summaries of each game.
Game 1: Cal 10, Purdue 0
Cal slugged three home runs, its first three of the year, and junior right-hander Daulton Jefferies (2-0) picked up the win with six shutout innings, allowing just three hits and fanning eight. Senior designated hitter Devin Pearson finished 3-for-3 with a two-run blast in the bottom of the third inning, and was one of three Bears with a multiple-hit night.
Game 2: Cal 4, Purdue 0
The Bears shutout the Boilermakers for the second straight night, and sophomore catcher Brett Cumberland went 4-for-4 with his second home run in as many nights, as well as a pair of doubles with two knocked in offensively. Senior starter, righty Ryan Mason tallied his first win of the year with a 10-strikeout performance in seven spotless innings of work, scattering six hits. Cal homered twice on the night, pushing their season total to five, all coming in the last two outings.
Game 3: Cal 15, Michigan 5
No. 12 California (5-2) swept visiting Purdue (1-5) with a 15-5 win on Sunday afternoon at Evans Diamond in Berkeley, Calif. to pick up their fourth straight victory. Cal racked up a season-best 19 hits in the win, and had nine different players drive in runs in the series finale.
