As expected, strong pitching was on display, as Cal junior righty and preseason All-American Daulton Jefferies battled Duke junior right-hander Bailey Clark. Jefferies finished the day with nine strikeouts (one off of his 2015 season-high), allowing just two runs, both unearned, in 6.0 sharp innings of work for his first win of the season. Clark was impressive as well for Duke, earning a no decision, going 5.1 innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits with five strikeouts. In addition to Jefferies' nine strikeouts, the Bears' bullpen tallied six more for a total of 15.

Here's a potential preview of what you can expect today. Go Bears!

The Bears are back in action tomorrow morning for game two of the three game series at 10 a.m. PT from Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Senior right-hander Ryan Mason (6-3, 2.98 ERA in 2015) is slated to oppose Duke fifth year senior lefty Trent Swart (5-2, 1.76 ERA in 2014, after missing all of last year).
