Defensive end Rusty Becker will be one of the newest linemen competing for playing time this spring practice. The junior college commit has enrolled at Cal this spring and will compete to get on the two deep in time for fall camp.

Becker is a three-star recruit according to ESPN, Rivals and 247Sports, ranks as high as the No. 11 junior college defensive end in the 2016 recruiting class according to ESPN while 247Sports has him at No. 13 nationally at his position and the state of Minnesota's No. 2 junior college recruit.

Trace scouted Becker and discerned what he thought the coaching staff liked about Becker: "What I like about him, and what I think the Cal staff likes about him, is how fundamentally he plays and how knowledgeable he is about the game. He seems to have enough awareness and reactive ability to translate what he's seeing into action. I like that he plays low off the snap, tries to bat down passes, and puts himself in the right place at the right time on zone reads."

More from Coach Sonny Dykes:

"We think Rusty will develop into a really good player," Dykes said. "He is an excellent athlete with length and size who has really impressed us with the way he can run."
