Could Marloshawn Franklin be the next Darius White? The Cal cornerback JUCO commit has arrived in Berkeley and is expected to be in contention to compete for the opening at starting cornerback next season. Franklin, a three-star recruit according to 247Sports, ESPN and Rivals, is ranked as high as the No. 11 junior college cornerback in the country in the 2016 recruiting class according to ESPN.
Solomon has a solid scouting report on Marloshawn: "Overall, Franklin is a physical and skilled cornerback with great vision and instinct. He doesn't shy away from contact, his footwork is quick and efficient, and his closing speed is top notch. He takes a couple risks on his reads but he doesn't make many mistakes on his fundaments i.e. tackling tracks, footwork, and ball skills. He will need time to adjust to the speed and strength commonplace at the Division I level, but he has the physical tool kit necessary to make that adjustment quickly."
"We expect Marloshawn to be able to come in and compete for a starting job from day one," Dykes said. "He is a big corner who is a really good athlete and a competitive player. We really like a lot of the things he does in terms of both tackling and pass coverage."
