Cal Women's Basketball Falls at Utah 72-66. Our Game Thread Here:

Cal looks to avenge their heartbreaking loss to Utah back in January. It would also be their first road win of the conference season. Let's Go Bears!

The Cal women's team are on the road in the Mountain Time Zone, with two more chances to get their first Pac-12 road win of the season. First, they face off against Utah, who barely edged Cal at Haas in January after an onslaught in the second half. This would become a bad theme that we'd see for the remainder of the season, with the Bears not being able to keep first half momentum going for an entire game. In fact that loss would be the first of what ended up being a five game losing streak, and a 1-9 stretch overall. This is mainly due to depth and inexperience, but perhaps holding on and routing against Arizona will be the spark the Bears need.

  • THE GAME: Cal vs. Utah
  • WHERE? Salt Lake City, UT
  • WHEN? 5PM
  • HOW TO WATCH: Pac-12 Bay Area and Pac-12 Mountain
As stated earlier, the Bears played the Utes well at Haas but ultimately gave up the lead late. Utah scored 53 points in the second half, with Emily Potter and Malia Nawahine each scoring 20 points. The loss spoiled great efforts by Kristine Anigwe, who had 23, and Asha Thomas, who had that near half-court buzzer beater at the end of the 2nd quarter! Look for them to repeat their great efforts on the road.

The Utes are just barely above Cal, the 9th place team in the conference at 3-11, at 6-8 in Pac-12 play. All 3 of Cal's conference wins have come to the teams below them (Colorado, WSU and Arizona). Colorado will come next, which won't be televised locally, but for now a win against a team above them would be great for Cal's confidence in this rebuilding season. Plus, it would be nice to have a road win, and since the men's basketball team got their first road conference win yesterday, how about the women follow them up with their first today?

A win would also be Cal's first two game winning streak in conference play... and could set up for a great finish to the season. It's not too late to give up on the year, even a WNIT run could be great for the program. (Or you know, a conference tourney run) Let's get that great run going! Go Bears.
