Cal football’s season is officially over. The Golden Bears did not qualify with a high enough APR score to attain a 5-7 bowl game. This is the third time in four years that Sonny Dykes has not made a bowl at Cal, and the second time in three years he comes up one victory short. Narrow defeats at San Diego State and Oregon State turned out to be the difference.
Texas did turn down their bid at 5-7, but every other team that satisfied both APR and bowl eligibility requirements did not. South Alabama’s win yesterday leapt them into a bowl as well. There were not enough spots for the Bears to make one of the 80 bowl selections.
Cal still has many things to work out. They will likely be looking for a new defensive coordinator and will be changing many position coaches. And it’s still unclear how committed Sonny Dykes is to Cal long-term after rumored meetings with Baylor, so that situation still has to be figured out.
Cal fans, what are your thoughts?
