Cal football recruiting has been on the quieter side this cycle, but it can gain a quick injection of energy with one major recruitment shift.
Could that come in the form of consensus #1 recruit in the nation and Bay Area local Najee Harris?
Harris made his official trip to Berkeley this past week. Ryan Gorcey of Scout confirms the official visit took place from Thursday to Friday night. Harris’s mother confirmed the visit in a tweet.
Thank you Coach Dykes for this amazing view we enjoyed our visit with you, your lovely wife, and Cal staff, There's no place like home#Cal pic.twitter.com/vGGtZH7adc— Tianna Hicks (@Thicks2072) December 12, 2016
Cal -- the local school -- has always lurked in the background, and his relationship with running backs coach Garret Chachere has been steadily growing deeper throughout the season.
This trip was sandwiched in between his official visit to Michigan...
It's was awesome! Thank you Jim and Sarah harbough you have a beautiful family and to all the wonderful Michigan staff you rock!! Stay warm pic.twitter.com/TEjeGle2eP— Tianna Hicks (@Thicks2072) December 12, 2016
...and an in-home visit from Nick Saban, Tosh Lupoi and the Alabama Crimson Tide, who Harris has been committed to for some time. With his East Bay roots, Lupoi has been Harris’s primary recruiter from an early period, which helped secure the early commitment.
Cal is obviously a pretty dark horse at this moment, barring some seismic shifts on the coaching front. But I doubt any Cal fan predicted Demetris Robertson to be a Bear at this point last season, so anything goes in the recruiting world.
