Cal ranked 40th in the AP and Coaches Poll

What a world.

NCAA Football: Utah at California John Hefti-USA TODAY Sports

The California Golden Bears are still a ways away from being ranked in the top 25, but they are getting some recognition for big resume wins. Cal has received votes in both the Associated Press (three) and the Coaches Poll (seven) and are ranked 40th in both polls.

The Bears are still a bit of a distance away from the top 25. They’ll probably need to win their next two games and hope for some more chaos to get further up in the rankings, but at least they’re in sight of the door.

Cal has only two top 25 opponents left on their schedule at the moment in Washington (6th in the Coaches, 5th in the AP) and Stanford (15th in both polls), although UCLA is knocking on the door. Utah dropped to 24th in both the AP and the Coaches Poll.

Texas and Arizona State are also receiving a few votes in either poll.

Here is a summary of the top 25 polls.
