Cal basketball recruiting target: Is no news good news with Brandon McCoy?

Hard to tell.

The California Golden Bears have three major top 100 2017 prospects they are still actively recruiting where they have a decent chance. To recap,

The third target is five star big man Brandon McCoy. McCoy has gotten a host of offers from many schools outside of Cal, a list that includes Arizona, UConn, Georgia, Kansas, Michigan State, Oregon and San Diego State.

The big news here? There haven’t been really any updates of any sort. Aside from a recent visit to Arizona a week or so ago, McCoy has been pretty mum on his recruitment, and even then not many details have really leaked from his camp. Several programs have been identified as being super interested in their recruitment of McCoy.

So I can’t really tell you whether McCoy is seriously considering Cal, has them on the radar, or not considering them at all. All I can tell you is that McCoy’s interest in biology might give Cal a decent shot.

In another interview, this time with Jacob Polacheck Sports, McCoy listed a family oriented program, great coaching and a school that offers marine biology as important factors in his recruiting. In case you're wondering, among schools of interest to McCoy, Cal, UCLA and Oregon have marine biology programs.

That being said, McCoy would be a huge prospect to land. Landing Ira Lee or Brandon McCoy will help Cal to stem the bleeding of losing a potential four big men in the next two years (Ivan Rabb, Marcus Lee, Kameron Rooks, Kingsley Okoroh).
