Cal basketball leading scorer Tyrone Wallace out 4-6 weeks with broken hand

Ouch.

John Hefti-USA TODAY Sports

Tyrone Wallace will be out of action for the Bears for at least a month. Cal men's basketball confirmed that Wallace broke his hand and will need four to six weeks of recovery before he can return to the court.

Wallace will miss a crucial stretch of play for the Bears, who are rapidly approaching win or else mode. Cal will play five of their next seven games at home, with a road trip to the Mountain schools nestled in between. It's a winnable stretch of games, but that task becomes much harder without Wallace.

Based on the initial diagnosis, Wallace could at best return for Cal in time for the Washington road trip, but would more likely be back with Cal in time for the UCLA-USC games or maybe the Arizona road trip to conclude the 2015 season. At worst, you'd expect Wallace to return in time for the Pac-12 tournament in Las Vegas.

You can expect Sam Singer to become the starting point guard for the Bears, and also more of Brandon Chauca as the backup.
