Cal is inching up on the top 25 after their narrow escape in Austin. The Bears received a significant number of votes in both the AP and Coaches Polls.

Cal received 20 votes in the Coaches Poll, moving up to 35th overall from 41st last week.

Cal made an even bigger leap in the AP Poll with 38 votes, moving up to 29th overall from 39th last week.

Still a lot of game to be played, and one bad loss in the next few weeks will push us right back out of the talk. But for now we're in the hunt!

That doesn't mean things will get easier for the Bears. Cal has five top 25 teams left to play in UCLA, USC, Stanford, Oregon, and Utah. And we haven't included Arizona State, who lingers right along with Cal just outside the top 25.

Also, one worrisome note, San Diego State lost at home to South Alabama. Grambling State did win their first game of the season against Alabama State.

Here are the full top 25 rankings.
