Schedule
On TV this week is Cal Field Hockey as they take on rival Stanford later today. A "Big Stick?" open thread will have more info on the state of Cal Field Hockey.
Both of the Cal Women's Soccer road games (@San Francisco and @Cal Poly) are apparently streamed online. Find the link in the schedule below.
Cal Men's Soccer are home for two matches this weekend (vs. Davidson and vs. San Francisco). Not sure how much of a soccer fan Davidson alum Stephen Curry is. Might him show up at Edwards Stadium?
Cal Volleyball is hosting St. Mary's tonight and Pacific tomorrow. Pac-12 play starts for the Bears against Stanford next Wednesday in the home leg of the Big Spike (watch out for an open thread for that match).
Cal Men's Water Polo will play at the NorCal classic down at Stanford. This is the first real test of the season as the Bears will see how they stack up against the top water polo programs in UCLA, USC, and Stanford at various points of this weekend tournament.

Bears got an early first half goal and then allowed goalie Emily Boyd to make some nice plays to preserve that lead.
AMAZING save by Cal Goalkeeper Emily Boyd in the 75' to keep the Bears up 1-0 here in Berkeley. pic.twitter.com/hHj73le1b4

Arielle Ship with a brace (both late in the 2nd half) to give the Bears this victory.
Goal Summary
66:52, Cal – Arielle Ship (Ifeoma Onumonu, Celeste Boureille) – Slotted into the upper corner of the net
88:02, Cal – Arielle Ship (-) – Penalty Kick
Bears remain undefeated for the 5th straight match (okay, there is a draw in there but it's against a tough North Carolina squad) with this victory.

Cal keeper Emily Boyd posted two clean sheets and rightfully earned the Goalie of the Week honor in the Pac-12. With the two victories, the Bears have risen from being 16th in the country to 13th.
GOAL ON YOU BEARS!
Cal Men's Soccer (3-1, 1-0 last week)
The young Cal Men's Soccer team showed that Berkeley is indeed the flagship campus of the UC by dispatching UC Davis last weekend.
Goals by Matt Chaseman and Shinya Kadono gave the Bears a 2-0 lead, which they held on against a late Aggies goal.
Check out this beauty!
There's so much fancy footwork here, @CalMensSoccer could opena shoe store! It's clearly a #12Best Moment. http://t.co/rcupzhELyQ

Cal Volleyball (5-4, 2-1 at the Service Academy Classic)
Bears traveled to Washington, DC to play in the Service Academy Classic in the Pentagon last weekend. Bears opened play with a 5 set win over Harvard, before beating Army in 4 sets.
To close out the tournament, Bears lost in 5 sets to Air Force. It's again an uneven weekend for the Golden Bears as Pac-12 play draws closer.
Sadly, it does not appear that the Bears will contend in the always very tough Pac this season, although with more seasoning you still can't rule out talent taking a big leap just all of the sudden.
Former top recruit sophomore Ashten Smith-Gooden has yet to appear in a match this year. I have no idea whether she is expected to play at all this season. In the mean time, freshman like Carmen Annevelink has stepped up.

Cal Men's Water Polo (5-0, 1-0 last week)
No.3 Bears had an easy match against No.14 UC Davis last week, easily winning 16-7. It was a balanced attack/tune-up as 10 different Bears tallied a goal.
We're talkin bout practice! Next up: Kap7 NorCal Invitational at Stanford this weekend. #GoBears https://t.co/MqDCv9Ln38
— Cal Water Polo (@CalWaterPolo) September 17, 2015
The first real test of the season may be the NorCal tournament this weekend. Bears open play against San Jose State but should also match up against the UCLA, USC, Stanford at some point.
Cal Field Hockey (4-3, 1-1 last week)
Cal Field Hockey earned a hard fought 3-2 OT win at No.14 Penn State before being edged 2-1 by Bucknell. The road toughen women will open conference (American East) play when they take on No.6 Stanford at 1:30 PM. Check my open thread for Cal Field Hockey to learn more about their unfortunate lack of a home field for the second straight season.
Cal Women's Golf
The Cal Women's Golf squad opened their season with a 3rd place team finish at the Ptarmigan Classic in Colorado.
Highly regarded freshman Marianne Li may be the next star for the Bears as she led the team with a 7th overall finish in her debut. Between her and veteran like Carly Childs and Alice Jeong, the Bears should be back in NCAA contention again.
CAL LINEUP:

*Apologies for the terseness of this week's column as the Austin travel schedule has limited the amount of time I can put into this this week.
