Cal has made what looks like their final coaching addition. Sonny Dykes confirms that Andre Carter will be joining the Cal coaching staff as a graduate assistant. Carter has been spotted several times at practice this fall and now Sonny Dykes made it official today. Carter will be finishing his undergraduate degree at Cal and will spend the year helping out with the Bears.

Carter has naturally been working with the defense and primarily the defensive line. Perhaps he can provide another added bump to improved defensive line performance?

Carter just completed a 13 year career in the NFL, with stints with the 49ers (2001-05), Redskins (2006-10), Raiders (2012), and Patriots (2011 & 2013). At Cal, Carter was purely dominant. He won the Morris Trophy as the Pac-10’s top defensive lineman and was a first team All-American in 2000.

Carter is the second former Golden Bear from the NFL who has joined a Sonny Dykes coaching staff. Jahvid Best was a student assistant with the Bears last season.

Here is the official release from Jeff Faraudo of Inside Bay Area:

"Where do you start? He's obviously a heck of a football player, a great NFL player," Dykes said of Carter, who played his first five NFL seasons with the 49ers and was a Pro Bowl selection in 2011. "A great role model for your players and the kind of guy you want to have around your program."
