Inside The Lair: Where Are They Now?: Brian Treggs

When his alarm goes off at 5 a.m. most days, it's because Brian Treggs has a lot to accomplish. The 45-year-old father of Cal senior wide receiver Bryce Treggs is as passionate and competitive about life today as he was as a Golden Bear student-athlete over two decades ago when he was putting together a collegiate career that has landed him a spot in the Cal Athletic Hall of Fame.

As star receiver from 1988-91, Treggs racked up 167 receptions, 2,335 yards receiving and 15 touchdown catches - all numbers that still rate among the school's all-time top 10. By the time he capped his career with a New Year's Day victory over Clemson in the Citrus Bowl, Treggs stood as Cal's all-time leader in receptions. He is still the only player in school history to have paced the team in receiving three times.

Now his passion and competitiveness show up in days that typically begin with a pre-dawn workout before heading to his downtown Los Angeles law office. Then it's off to post-work obligations coaching football at prep powerhouse St. John Bosco and offering advice to the Pop Warner coaches of his 11-year-old son Brandon. Treggs also finds time to support the serious ice skating ambitions of his two daughters - nine-year-old Alexandra and seven-year-old Sydney. Then there's homework help and all the other responsibilities of a father of four.

OregonLive/TheOregonian and CGB's sister site House of Sparky preview the 2015 California Golden Bears. Consensus? The Bears are young and talented, but will only go as far as the defense takes them.

ESPN 3-Point Stance also dishes on the Bears:

3. The more I hear about the progress of California junior quarterback Jared Goff, the more I think the Golden Bears are a dark horse in the Pac-12 North. Yes, he's skinny, but he survived the beating he took the last two seasons and just might get some protection this season. And has he got an arm. "His understanding of the offense - the timing, the understanding, the execution and attention to detail is so much further along than it has been really at any point," Cal head coach Sonny Dykes said. "...He's doing all the stuff you want a quarterback to do for you."
