Cal quarterback and leader of the #drop50 Cal Bears, Jared Goff, continues to rack up the preseason award watch list nominations. Already a popular choice as a dark horse Heisman candidate, Goff picked up another three nominations on national top player and top quarterback lists. Goff is coming off a stellar sophomore campaign where he broke school records for passing yards (3,973) and touchdowns (35), while completing over 60% of his attempts. Cal returns one of the most experienced teams in the Pac-12 with nearly all of their starters on offense returning for what could be a huge year in Berkeley.
Sonny Dykes and Tony Franklin have been buzzing all spring about Goff's improved signal calling ability and comfort with changing the play at the line of scrimmage. This should allow Goff to effectively manipulate many defensive schemes and create a Peyton Manning sized problem for defenses in the Pac-12.
Goff is already one of the most prolific passers in Cal football history and should end up holding most of the records for a Cal quarterback by season's end. Many expect Jared Goff and company to bring Cal back to national prominence after a few underwhelming seasons.
It's worth mentioning that the Davey O'Brien award factors in fan voting along with their selection committee, so get out there and #votegoff Cal fans!
