Golden Bear Spotlight: Impacting The World Through Lacrosse

Charlotte Biffar knew exactly what she was going to do once final exams were completed last spring.

The sophomore defender on the California women's lacrosse team was headed to Central America to help those less fortunate. Never mind the fact that she didn't know how to speak Spanish - what was more important to her was helping others, and using the game of lacrosse as a tool to do so.

Volunteering for Lacrosse The Nations, an organization that unifies the lacrosse community to sustainably improve education and health while creating hope and opportunity for children in need, Biffar headed to Nicaragua and Costa Rica to help out.

The goal of the trip was to teach underprivileged children life skills like teamwork and respect for others. First, the children were taught the life lessons in a classroom setting, and then local staff and volunteers like Biffar helped further explain those lessons on the field through lacrosse.

Aaron Rodgers wins Best NFL Athlete

One Green Bay Packers legend completed a hand-off to a Packers legend-in-the-making Wednesday evening during the pre-ESPYS red carpet show in Los Angeles.

Brett Favre was on the red carpet to give Aaron Rodgers the ESPY for best NFL player. Rodgers beat out J.J. Watt, Tom Brady, DeMarco Murray and Antonio Brown for the silver trophy that Favre handed him.

"He got drafted first round for a reason," Favre said about Rodgers. "He had all the tools that it takes."

Asked by SportsCenter anchors Neil Everett and Stan Verrett about the success Rodgers has had after three seasons of waiting in his shadow to become a starter, Favre said: "He just needed an opportunity. So I'm not surprised a bit."

In his 10 seasons, Rodgers has been to four Pro Bowls and was named a Super Bowl MVP.

Alex Morgan and the USWNT were honored at the end of the ESPYs with the Best Team award.
