The Steve Kerr pipeline is strong to UC Berkeley. First it was Steve's daughter Maddy who signed up with Cal volleyball in 2013. (Heck, Maddy playing Cal volleyball probably persuaded Steve toward coaching the Warriors over the Knicks, so the Bay Area has the Golden Bears to thank for this!).
Now, Steve's son is joining the Golden Bears. A redshirt junior guard at the University of San Diego, Nick Kerr is reportedly heading to Cal for his final year of eligibility as a walk-on. Jeff Faraudo of BearTalk has more.
Nick Kerr, who played as a redshirt junior last season at the University of San Diego, has been accepted into the School of Public Health graduate program at Cal.
Cal has made no announcement on Kerr’s intentions, unable to comment until Kerr enrolls in classes. Because he has graduated from USD, Kerr would be immediately eligible to play next season for the Bears.
Kerr hasn't seen much playing time in college, so I wouldn't expect him to be a huge contributor overall to the team. But public relations wise, it has to be great to have the son of one of the best coaches in basketball with the Bears, and maybe it could bolster relationships between the Warriors and the Golden Bears.
Expect to see numerous visits from Steve to Haas Pavilion in the near future.
